La Famiglia Italiana...

Italian food, Italian music, Italian gestures, Italian dialects, Italian values.  All this was accepted without question.  The implicit belief then was that this was family, la famiglia, and that within it one was safe from betrayal from that cool Anglo-Saxon world outside the ramparts.  The family’s attitude to strangers was comically exemplified by Nonna’s response when there was anyone unexpectedly at the door. Whipping off her outside apron, with a big roll of her eyes she would grumble, Ma, chi cazz’ è?  That is to say, Who the fuck can that be?
